Kat Bursky, LPC

Kat has an MA in Clinical Counseling and over twelve years of experience providing compassionate, effective trauma therapy in a variety of settings. She is especially passionate about and skilled with working with survivors of abuse and interpersonal violence, chronic mood disorders, college students, and the LGBTQIA+ community, including providing documentation for gender-affirming medical treatment.

Kat uses an integrated approach with a primary focus on EMDR, a highly effective evidence-based treatment that utilizes both cognitive and somatic techniques to identify and process past trauma. She also incorporates elements of IFS/parts work, DBT, ACT, and CBT into her therapeutic style.

When you meet with Kat, you can expect a dynamic, engaged therapist who takes an active role in your healing process. Her competency and expertise will be clearly evident, but clients tend to feel at ease as a result of her authenticity and genuine care and concern for their wellbeing.

Kat is gently directive, providing insights and fostering skills to help you feel more in control of your choices. She is also social justice-oriented and systems-focused, allowing you to feel fully seen and understood not just as an individual, but within a broader societal context.

Kat finds fulfillment in the little things, including spending time in nature, eating and laughing with her partner, family and friends, and cuddle time with her diluted calico, Jasmine. You can most often find her at a concert or play, rockhounding at the coast, sweating it out in a hot yoga class, or relaxing with a movie or TV show. Kat is unashamed in her love of various fandoms and can link most situations to a Taylor Swift lyric or scene in Parks & Recreation. She was born and raised in New Jersey and has lived in various parts of the country, but has found none as fitting for her as the PNW.

Everyone deserves safety and dignity.

Kat is a queer-identified therapist who actively works to recognize and condemn personal and societal biases, such as white supremacy, patriarchy, xenophobia, heteronormativity, transphobia, classism, ableism, and any other forms of marginalization and oppression. This includes engaging in ongoing learning and activism outside of the therapy room as well as acknowledging and honoring the negative impact of these systems and biases on her clients.
